Halle in Harlem, or, my Obsession with all things Harlem is Starting to Show

The toned ( she’s in her mid forties–not fair!) Halle was in New York City on  Tuesday, June 14th and like many a celebrity visiting The Big Apple (I’m old school and proud of it–The Big Apple to those of us who came of age in the 80s!), she made her way uptown to Harlem.  I mean wouldn’t you, celebrity or not?

Ms. Berry attended a fundraiser hosted at the hottest  eatery in Manhattan.  Harlem’s new famed Red Rooster restaurant http://redroosterharlem.com/ (the original Red Rooster opened in the early 1900s and was the considered the Stork Club of Harlem because of the collegiate, well to do blacks that frequented the restaurant–my parents were loyal patrons during the 1960s), the culinary home of  celebrity chef;  Harlem resident, Marcus Samuelsson.  The same Red Rooster in March hosted a $30,800 a plate (yes, and no, it’s not a typo!) fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee–the guest of honor–President Obama  {A belated “welcome to Harlem Mr. President,” from The Recovering Attorney}.

Tuesday’s event, hosted  by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, brought a number of celebs uptown.  Of note,  Mariska Hargitay of NBC’s Law and Order franchise (Iam  L & O biggest fan—sorry Dad–I know that you turned me on to the drama when I was a first year law student–but I think it’s safe to say that if I can recall “who done it” right after Lenny Briscoe comes upon the corpse and drops his expected one-liner–ding, ding, ding, you have a winner.  Ha!).  The entertainment for the evening:  Estelle.  A while back the British import performed at Harlem’s world-famous Apollo Theatre http://www.apollotheater.org/ just a mere stroll away from the Red Rooster (dinner and a concert–it’s happening in Harlem!).

Harlem, Halle, Hargitay and The Red Rooster—had to be a great evening!
